Illustrated below are two varieties of the 1 Anna issue with earlier and later versions of the overprints used on Patiala stamps. The first is the 1884 variety, overprinted in red curving around the head of Queen Victoria. The second was issued between 1891 and 1896 with the overprint in black across the lower part of the stamp. Both these examples were used officially.
