Illustrated below are two varieties of the Queen Victoria 1882 1 Penny issued in New Zealand. Three Dies were used in throughout the printings over the eight years the set was produced. This and the use of different papers, perforations and subtle colour variations make dating individual stamps very difficult. The two stamps shown below are Die 3 (1889) on the left and Die 1 (1882) on the right. The Die 1 example shows a flaw in the bridge of the nose that is not listed.
