Illustrated below is an early postage stamp issue from the Indian State of Faridkot. Between 1879 and 1886 Faridkot issued postage stamps of values of 1 folus and 1 paisa both the equivalent of a quarter Anna. This example is the 1 Paisa issue. The stamps were hand stamped on papers of thick laid paper, ordinary laid paper and wove paper. The earliest were on native made papers. Discontinued postally after 1887, when Faridkot signed a postal convention with the Imperial Government of India, the stamps were sold to collectors in subsequent years on wove paper. Consequently the earlier issues on laid paper, postally used, are considered to have a slightly higher value than mint examples
