Shown below is the stamp set issued in Australia in 1965 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli during World War 1. The set had three values a 5 Pence (brown), 8 Pence (blue), and 2Shillings and 3 Pence (purple). The stamp is dedicated to John Simpson who is famous for rescuing wounded from No-Mans Land and carrying them to safety with the aid of a donkey found on the Gallipoli peninsular . Simpson was himself killed while giving aid and is buried in the Australian graveyard at Gollipoli. A detail of the 8 Pence value is illustrated below the set.
